IS1203 is located 2 kb upstream of the sltI operon (Shiga-like toxin type I) of Escherichia coli O111:H- strain PH. There are at least 12 IS1203 chromosomal copies in strain PH of Escherichia coli O111:H-. IS1203 ORF2 is 95 and 96 % identical to those of IS3411 and IS629, respectively. Based on comparison with other IS51 group members, the ends of IS1203 (Paton and Paton, 1994) have been reevaluated: 1 bp has been removed at each end. All coordinates have been modified accordingly.
