IST2 contains two overlapping ORFs: ORF1 (76-453) and ORF2 (M=504-1394). These ORF have been considered as forming a single ORF, based on comparisons to the other members of the IS256 family (the intervening sequence between the two putative proteins contains highly conserved residues !). However, this will require a frameshift around position 430-470 in the current DNA sequence. This proposal needs further experimental confirmations.
