Comments
Mycoplasma incognitus is a newly recognised human pathogen causing systemic infections. ISMi1 is present in multicopies in Mycoplasma incognitus (Hu et al., 1990).
By analogy to other IS3-like elements, the ISMi1 ORF2 (103 (1021-1332) [P]) described by these authors is too short and should probably start at the end of ORF1 (sequencing errors ?). An ORF containing the DDE concensus of the IS3 family was found in frame 2 and has been used here. The ISMi1 copy analysed by Calcutt et al. exhibit a longer transposase and is clearly a member of the IS3 family.It was isolated from Mycoplasma fermentans.
Remember that the opal codon (UGA) encodes the aa tryptophan (W) in Mycoplasma.
