Comments
ISH23 is very similar (but not identical) to ISH50 (Pfeifer et al., 1984): although two restriction sites are different between the two elements, their first and last 200 bp were found to identical (Pfeifer, 1993). ISH23 has been isolated through its inactivation of the bacteriorhodopsin (BR, bop) gene. There are 2 ISH23/ISH50 copies in the Halobacterium salinarum NRC817 chromosome (Pfeifer et al., 1986).
