ISRel1 is 37% aa similar to ISRm16. ISRel1 has been found by screening completely sequenced bacterial genomes for sequences homologous to the ISAva1 transposase using BLASTP. Multiple alignments revealed a conserved DDE motif : D(N2)-65-D(N3)-104-E(C1). The copy number of ISRel1 in Rhizobium etli CFN 42 (plasmid p42a) is 1. On p42a, an insertion sequence of the IS21 family is inserted into ISRel1. The present sequence was reconstructed by in silico deletion of the IS21 insertion together with one copy of the IS21 direct repeat.
