ISTth2 was found by screening completely sequenced genomes for seqences homologous to the ISXaca1 transposase using BLASTP. Multiple alignments revealed a conserved DDE motif : D(N2)-64-D(N3)-98-E(C1). The copy number in Thermus thermophilus HB27 is 2 on the chromosome and 1 on plasmid pTT27.
