ISAva1 was found by screening completely sequenced genomes for sequences homologous to the ISPpu8 transposase using BLASTP. Multiple sequence alignments revealed a conserved DDE motif : D(N2)-69-D(N3)-99-E(C1). The copy number in Anabaena variabilis ATCC 29413 is 1.
