ISWz1 has been detected by Brassard et al. (1994) downstream the AccI restriction and methylase genes in Weeksella zoohelcum. This 1219 region shares homology with members of the IS91 family.
Moreover, its close structural association with a downstream integrase gene remains to be detailed. Finally, the authors have also reported a 53-bp insertion in the middle of ISWz1 major ORF: consequently, the 388-aa ORF considered here results from the fusion between a 107- and a 281-aa ORF. Note: Weeksella zoohelcum is commensal of the internal surfaces of humans and other warm-blooded animals. ISWz1 is adjacent to the AccI restriction-modification operon.
