Pseudomonas syringae pv. savastanoi causes olive and oleander knot disease, due to the secretion of plant hormones (trans-zeatin riboside and indole-3-acetic acid) by the bacterium. IS51 is associated with the loss of indolacetic acid production (virulence factor), by insertion in the iaaM gene (tryptophan 2-monooxygenase) and a polar effect on the iaaH gene (indoleacetamide hydrolase). By comparison to IS868, specific DNA sequence changes have been proposed: 657-658: addition of a C, and 418: deletion of a G; all coordinates have been changed accordingly. IS51 (coordinates 1 to 528) is 67.7 % identical to the TC-region of Agrobacterium tumefaciens pTi15955 (coordinates 15616 to 15087) (De Meirsman et al., 1987).
