IS492 ORF is 24.2 % identical to IS110 ORF1, 17 % to IS117 ORF and 21 % to IS900 ORF. Insertion (or precise excision) of IS492 into (from) the eps gene of Pseudomonas atlantica, regulates (on/off ) its extracellular polysaccharide production. IS492 generates 5-bp DR upon transposition, as demonstrated by sequencing in the eps gene (Bartlett and Silverman, 1989).
