Promotes replicon fusion. IS402 insertion (in both orientations) increases foreign gene expression. IS402 transposase is a "fusion" between two ORFs, (88-441) and (438-905), as suggested by comparison with other IS5 family members. At position 436, the sequence 5'-CAAAAACTGGGCC-3' is a potential site for a -1 frameshifting between both ORFs.
IS402 is 99% aa similar to ISBcen20 and 85% aa similar to ISBugl2.
