Insertion of IS18 into a silent aac(6')-Ij gene resulted in its activation possibly by using a -35 (TTGCCG - position 1097 to 1102) in the right end to create a hybrid promoter. PCR generated a fragment in which two ends were abutted and separated by 2bp as in case of IS30.
