A -1 translational frameshifting (A AAA AAG followed by a stem-and-loop structure) is responsible for the production of the transframe protein Ins150AB (rate > 30 %), but is also required for the expression of the ins150B gene (Ins150A'B product). IS150 ORFB is about 35 % identical to those of IS3 and IS600. IS150 can function as a true mobile promoter. IS150 might have a strong target specificity (Schwartz et al., 1988a). There is only one copy of IS150 in Escherichia coli BHB2600, HB101, and W3110 (Birkenbihl and Vielmetter, 1989) and none in Escherichia coli B, Escherichia coli C and Salmonella typhimurium LT2 (Schwartz et al., 1988b).
