Tn5432 (4,524 bp) consists of two identical copies of IS1249 flanking the erythromycin resistance gene ermCX (Tauch et al., 1995). IS1249 is the more distant member of the IS256 family. Although its IR fit well with those of the other members, its putative transposase (402 aa) displays similarities with that of the other family members in its central region only (residues 113-315). Moreover, this sub-domain is about 30-aa longer for IS1249, due to the presence of an "inserted" segment at around position 225.
