IS1186 , IS1168 and IS1168F are nearly identical: IS1168F vs IS1168, 6 nt (2 aa), IS1168F vs IS1186, 4 nt (2 aa), IS1168 vs IS1186, 9 nt (1 aa). IS1186 was shown to transpose upstream (in several independent strains, at slightly different locations) and to consequently activate the expression of cfiA, a gene coding for a class B, metallo beta-lactamase active against cephamycins and carbapenems (Podglajen et al., 1994).
