IS1182 is related to IS1272, as revealed by BLAST. Based on comparison with IS1272, the IS1182 ORF taken into account here is the fusion between the two reported ORFs: 142 aa (158-586) and 391 aa (587-1762), ignoring the stop codon at position 584. An IS1182 copy from Staphylococcus aureus BM3121 has been inactivated by the insertion of IS1181, an ISL3 family member (described in Accession number L43098). Both IS1182 and IS1272 putative transposases display some similarity with two ORF described in pAH4, a plasmid from Acetobacter sp. BPR2001 (Tonouchi et al., 1994 - Accession number D30784). However, detailed comparisons suggest a complex situation, with several possible sequencing errors; therefore, this putative element is not reported here yet.
The sequence containing IS1182 corresponds to the left junction of Tn5405 inserted within Tn5404. This region includes a resL site, one ORF of unknown function and the left copy of IS1182 within Tn5405.
