ISMae1 was isolated as an insertion into the gvp genes to produced spontaneous GV-deficient mutants.
IsmA (ORF1) and IsmB may be fused by translational frameshift into the putative transposase IsmAB'(ORF2) ribosomal slippage.
IsmA is similar to the N terminal part of the IS1 family transposase but there is no DDE in the C terminal part of IsmAB'.
