ISMae2 was described as a member of the IS4 family (Mlouka et al, 2004). BlastX analysis revealed a small homology with ISFac1 but no convincing DDE motif could be found.
ISMae2 was isolated as an insertion into the gvp genes to produced spontaneous GV-deficient mutants.
