ISS1S differs from ISS1T and IS946 by 4 and 27 bp, respectively. ISS1S (ISS1T) transposase shares 45 % identity with that of IS26. ISS1S and the pG+host gram+ plasmid have been derived into a thermosensitive transposition vector suitable for random insertion in Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus thermophilus and several lactococci (Maguin et al., 1996).
One complete and one truncated copie of an ISS1S-like element were present in Lactococcus lactis pNZ4000 respectively at coordinates 5447-5924 and 5905-6714. This element was 99% aa homologous with IS946V, 98%aa homologous with ISS1Rs and ISS1S.
