ISH3 has been isolated through its inactivation of the gvp operon (gas vesicle proteins, Vac-). ISH3B is present in the HindIII-E fragment of the pNRC100 plasmid from Halobacterium salinarum NRC-1 (Halladay et al., 1993). ISH3B is 97 % identical to ISH3A (over 471 bp).
Two copies are present in pNRC100 of Halobacterium sp. NRC-1 at coordinates 14061-12662 (2 additionnal bp were present at left extremity) ; 81981-83378. The most of differencies between this IS and ISH3C were localised at coordinates (pep) 61-126 and 331-316.
