There are 6 copies of ISSba19 inserted in the S. baltica OS233 chromosome.
One copy interrupts a gene that is conserved in Shewanella. Comparative analysis of the interrupted gene with intact genes was used to identify the precise ends of ISSba19. There is extensive conservation among the sequences flanking the insertions suggesting target specificity. The transposase encoded by ISSba19 has 92% identity to ISSod19. The terminal inverted repeats start at position 8 from the 5' end and 4 from the 3' end of ISSba19.
