IS1356 has been isolated from epidemic strains of Burkholderia cepacia infecting cystic fibrosis patients. Its is inserted into an IS402 element (Tyler et al., 1996). IS1356 putative transposase is 59 % identical to that of ISRm3 from Rhizobium meliloti.
