ISRba1 was found by screening completely sequenced bacterial genomes for sequences homologous to the IS4 transposase using BLASTP. Multiple sequence alignments revealed a conserved DDE motif : D(N2)-79-D(N3)-108-E(C1). The copy number in Rhodopirellula baltica SH 1 is 4.
