ISRm16 has been found by screening completely sequenced bacterial genomes for sequences homologous to the ISPpu8 transposase using BLASTP. Multiple alignments revealed a conserved DDE motif : D(N2)-64-D(N3)-104-E(C1). The copy number in Sinorhizobium meliloti 1021 is 7 on the chromosome and 1 on plasmid pSymB.
