ISWen1 has been found by screening completely sequenced bacterial genomes for sequences homologous to the ISPpu8 transposase using BLASTP. Multiple alignments revealed a conserved DDE motif : D(N2)-75-D(N3)-131-E(C1). The copy number in Wolbachia endosymbiont of Drosophila melanogaster is 3.
