IS1247 has been isolated from a Xanthobacter autotrophicus mutant resistant to MBA (Monobromoacetate), where it was found inserted upstream of the dhlB gene. This insertion promoted the over-expression of the haloacid dehalogenase (dhlB) and allowed the bacteria to be resistant to MBA. Xanthobacter autotrophicus GJ10 contains two copies of IS1247. The IS1247 transposase is reported to share some homology to an ORF from Serratia marcescens (ISSm1), upstream of the aac(3)-Vb gene (Rather et al., 1992), to the transposase of IS1380, and, although to a lesser extent, with that of IS942 from Bacteroides fragilis (van der Ploeg et al., 1995).

September 21 2012 : the file of the partial sequence of ISSm2 was deleted and information about it added in the IS1247 file (isoforme).
Previous comments of ISSm2 (Accession number : M97172) file : Similarities between ISSm1, IS1380 and IS1247 were originally noted by van der Ploeg et al. (1995). ISSm1 is located just upstream of the aac(3)-Vb gene (acetyltransferase), the last IS bp adjacent to the ATG codon (Rather et al., 1992). Note that the very tip of ISSm1 right end is based on its homology to IS1247. The C-terminal end (143-aa) of the putative ISSm1 transposase has 5 differences to that of IS1247.
